About Global Development

Where humanitarian aid and disaster relief provide short-term fixes to emergencies, global development seeks to make long-term and sustainable changes to help improve peoples' lives by empowering them with the tools and resources required to help themselves.

As an MGD student you will study six core modules including Critical Issues in Global Development, Equitable Development and Social Change, and Politics and Foreign Relations. You’ll have the option to then undertake individual research, complete an Australian or international internship, or to focus on a program specialisation stream. The specialisation streams include:

  • Disaster Resilience, Conservation and Natural Resource Management
  • Economics, Governance and Social Change
  • Indigenous Futures
  • Public Health
  • Sustainable Development Planning and Policy
  • Development Leadership and Management

What career possibilities are there?

Employment opportunities for MGD graduates are as diverse as they are rewarding.

You could help solve some of society’s most complex problems as a researcher, inspire the next generation through teaching, provide aid to those most in need as a disaster recovery specialist, or enter the dynamic world of sustainable business planning.

Choose to advance your career in your current field; enter into local, state or federal government; or follow in the footsteps of MGD Alumni and find employment in some of the World’s foremost organisations including UNESCO, the Salvation Army and the WWF.
